While I had a lot of fun doing the blog, I believe that, when viewed purely through a business lens, the ROI was probably negative. As I once pointed out, I could make more money panhandling than I could from the advertising revenue I generated. On an opportunities basis, I think it probably closed more doors than it opened. Economically, I believe that social media is almost always a loss leader for the contributor. Over time, that will affect the amount and quality of free content on the web.
